STRAWBERRY FARM FERTIZATION HARMING POND,WELLS AND WATER RESORCES
Caused by the excess unsafe disposal of fertilizers which contribute to the over growth of duckweed spangle weed and algae. We have lived on this block for 40 yrs. And have already filed some complaints however unless more voices are heard nothing may be done about beautiful pond in which we all share near Meadow Oaks Dr.. These are the steps we took which all resulted in no action. We are now prepared to take further actions to find those who will assist us in our goal of having this pond restored to the beauty it once had. Also to voice concerns of water well supply's to the bordering properties. Fish and wildlife may also be affected as well. In addition, the water flows into other areas such as Pemberton Creek, Lake Thonotosossa, and Hills River. We ourselves have cleared the pond several times over the past two years. However the issues persist to return. It has become difficult to manage. On 01/23/23 Spoke with Richard Beaty Richard Beaty said " Will send someone to evaluate the pond" Will call back. A lady called backed 1/24/23, from water dept. Asked a few questions. Then said will refer it to another Department. Will file complaint. Next referral said dept. of agriculture 02/09/23Spoke to Mr. Beaty again. Told him of the issues. Said he would look into it further. Said he would come out and then called said Department of Agriculture would come out. Someone came out a Matt Warren, looked but didn't do anything. 02/13/23 Southwest water management. Jeff Whilton called, said he had spoke to Matt Warren. Later that day Chris Protto of the EPC called to say call ADOPT A POND at 813-744-5671 tell them you have been referred to by the EPC. Called A message service answered. Went in circles. Finally was able to leave message. 02/13/23 Received call from Troy Green. Was informed that he would be out on Monday at 9:00 a.m.. Will send info to ADOPT A POND via e-mail 02/20/23 at 9;00 a.m. Troy Green took sample of spangle algae. Said would make appointment to have water tested. and to see how farmer is reclaiming water in the retention pond. 02/28/23 Again called Troy Green said he would schedule appointment for water sample for Thursday.03/02/23 water samples where collected. 03/17/23 9:41 a.m. Nothing from lab, results will be by Monday. Will call then. 03/20/23 Passed out some flyers for neighbors to help in calling representatives. 03/21/23 called Troy Green (813-245-4877) Said he called the Agriculture Consumer Services. They where going to talk to the farmers responsible. He will get back Tuesday. The question was raised about weather these nutrients could be getting into the surrounding wells. He said he could not comment on that question.( Doesn't know) 04/25/23 Troy Green called to say He has gone as for as he can go with this problem. He talked to the Department of Human Services, who said the farmers of the South & SE are enrolled " In the best management practices program". Was informed next to call the Department of Agriculture Consumer Services. Troy also indicated that the farm South of the nursery flows West to North.. The run off from the South East may be to, but was North mostly. Basically we have the run around here, with the problem not being solved. Everything possible is said to be, being done. The agencies in charge of protecting the environment do not do enough to enforce measures to stop the polluting of the environment. Doesn't really look like everything is being done. The pond is definitely not like it once was. If the pond looks like this, the contamination to the surrounding wells, which many homes have could also be infected, a concern that has never been answered. We are asking if there is anyone who can assist us in bringing to light this environmental issue in which our agencies who service have failed to do. |
